President’s Message
Dear Members:
Death By Chocolate, our October Fundraiser, was a huge success and we got lots of good response from other Arizona WCR Chapters who want to do something similar. We had a dozen vendors, about 60 participants and earned over $1600 that can be used for our members to attend state conferences and to fund the high school scholarships next year.
We have had exciting speakers and were pleased to be visited by Governor Jimmie McNeely and State President Kris Nelson. They attended both our Business Resource Meeting and our Board Meeting and gave us some helpful tips for conducting our meetings.
We were honored with Past State WCR President Malinda Barry installing our 2012 Officers at our November luncheon meeting. Bridgett Reynolds, member of the Phoenix Chapter who was teaching a Continuing Education Class in Sierra Vista that day, attended as well.
It has been a fun and learning experience for me, as your chapter president, and I will be here to support our new leadership as we move into 2012.
Here's to continued success in 2012!
Janice Colberg, 2011 President

President’s Message
Dear Members:
We continue to have good speakers and good turn out at our Business Resource Meetings. We've had a bit of a change in leadership as Lynn Warren, who was deeply affected by the Monument Fire, has decided to withdraw as President Elect and didn't attend the Leadership Training in Chicago. She is still an active member and very supportive but felt she had to resign. Many houses in the canyon where she lives near Sierra Vista were burned to the ground, Lynn and Dallas's sheds (including where Lynn keeps all her real estate supplies and records!) was destroyed and, even not losing the house, resulted in clean up and repairs plus lots of insurance paperwork.
The good that came from the Monument Fire was that the community came together to help those who had losses. WCR partnered with Real Wishes to make donations for victims of the fire.
Many thanks to Alice Switzer who has been faithfully sending out our meeting invitations and managing reservations for our monthly meetings who was elected to take Lynn's place as President Elect.
Here’s to continued success in 2011.

President’s Message
Dear Members:
Thanks to everyone for helping to make our chapter the successful organization that it is this year. We earned the SMALL CHAPTER OF THE YEAR AWARD! Congratulations everyone! This accomplishment was a result of our high-caliber monthly ‘Lunch & Learn’ meetings, our membership attendance at local, state and national meetings, and our chapter communications such as this newsletter and our website (http://www.sierravistawcr.org).
Speakers over the past quarter were educational and fun. In April, Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever resulted in a big crowd to hear him talk about ‘Arizona Border Issues.’ In May, Gigi Boyack, who we first saw when we attended the Tucson WCR Chapter last year, gave a wonderful presentation about ‘Home Staging.’ Tracey Grady from the Sierra Vista Police Department, spoke about ‘Home Safety During the Summer Months’ in June but told us so much more about how to safely hold open houses, neighborhood watch programs and the latest news about the city of Sierra Vista Police Department.
Congratulations to the three high school seniors who were presented with $250 scholarships each…Candace Kelley, Dyan Abad and Melissa Cepero. These WCR local chapter scholarships are just one more way our chapter supports and gives back to our community. We wish each of these winners success in their futures and are very proud of them.
Here’s to continued success in 2011.

Dear Members,
What a wonderful beginning to our year! We continue to hold our Business Resource Meeting on the first Thursday of each month (except July and December). In January, we welcomed Mignonne Hollis, the new executive director of the Sierra Vista Economic Foundation. February brought Sierra Vista's Planning Administrator, Don Brush who updated us on building plans for the area. In March, Chris Bourlier, of Premium Financial Services gave members tax tips for real estate professionals. Jacob Farber of the U.S. Border Patrol is our planned speaker for April. He will be talking about "Cross-Border Issues."
Along with the wonderful speakers, we enjoyed a visit by our State President, Yvonne Coelet who drove down from the White Mountains to attend our Business Resource Meeting and the board meeting that followed. We shared our plans and received valuable guidance from Yvonne.
In February, our chapter held a 'Spring Social Event' at Pueblo del Sol. For a $20 ticket, members and guests were treated to manicures, jewelry, scented candles, makeup experts and h'orderves. It was a fun time and a fundraiser. Thanks to everyone, especially Janice Colberg, for making it a successful event.
In March, President Janice Colberg, President-Elect Lynn Warren, Immediate Past President Barbara Highfield and Education Chair Bill Colberg attended the WCR Winter Conference in Prescott. This is in conjunction with the Arizona Association of Realtors Winter Conference so we joined our Southeast Arizona Association of Realtors (SAAR) Executive Director Lynn Butler, SAAR President Linda Wiseman, and SAAR President-Elect Linda Huffman for three days of education, networking, and enlightenment. What a wonderful event.
We look forward to continued participation in state and local events this year. We have a strong board of directors and continue to add members; both realtors and affiliates.

Sierra Vista/Cochise Women’s Council of Realtor’s Local Chapter Report-December 2010
Dear Members:
My year as president of the Sierra Vista/Cochise Chapter of WCR has been fulfilling and fun. The best part was working with our dedicated and professional chapter leaders. Our 2011 President-Elect Janice Colberg has proven to be a dynamo of energy and ideas and I’m sure 2011 will be even better. Linda Pitts came in as Vice President of Membership after a short time in the real estate business and has been my travel buddy for the state meetings. Rhena Wahlen and Ginny Francis, both affiliate national WCR members, work thankless hours as treasurer and secretary and have been instrumental in our fundraisers and event planning. Sandy Hannon, our 2009 president, has been a long time mentor and friend to me and to WCR. I recommend the position of chapter president to all our members as it has been a wonderful experience.
For a few years, we’ve talked about sponsoring a class taught by AAR Council Michelle Lind and this year we did it! We held a joint fundraiser class with our local association, the Southeast Arizona Association of Realtors and made almost $500. For our small chapter, this is a big success. Another successful fundraiser was our 50-50 raffle held over the past 3 months but announced at our local association’s installation banquet, November 12th. The grand price was $1,000 and it was an opportunity to showcase our WCR members and our partnership with the local association.
Earlier this year we held a Makeover 2010 with manicurists, massage therapists, skincare specialists, and sales people from Nordstrom’s with a line of clothing. It was held at the country club with snacks and drinks…a fun evening for members. Later this year, we have held dinners at Sophies, a small restaurant in Sierra Vista that is normally closed on Monday nights, but the chef holds cooking classes for groups of 12 which also include the dinner and wine .…with the doors closed to the public,. This has been a popular fundraiser and we intend on continuing it as long as we have people signing up.
Now it’s time to work on our Annual Business Report, get applications to the high schools for the WCR Scholarship we offer to graduating seniors and make plans for the 2011 programs. Thanks to our governors, Sindy Ready and Wilma Purcell, for your friendship and support this year, to Kris Nelson and Bob Nachman for your leadership and our strong local and state members who have been there for me all year. I will continue to be an active participant in this successful organization.
Barbara Highfield,
September 2010
Dear Members:
What wonderful programs and events we have had! Janice Colberg, Linda Pitts, Bill Coberg and I went to Phoenix for the State Summer Conference where we learned a great deal about WCR, how to grow our chapter and bring more value to our members. Janice attended the Leadership Training Academy in Chicago and came back with lots of wonderful ideas and enthusiasm.
Our Business Resource Meeting for August was Cochise County Sheriff Larry Deaver. He gave us an update on law enforcement in our area. What a fascinating talk about the border issues. September's BRM Lunch & Learn was with Trudy Berry, Superintendent of Schools for Cochise County. She helped us understand the new methods that will be used to rate schools in the county. She left us with lots of good information to use to help our clients.
On October 15th, we will be holding a joint education and lunch event with Southeast Arizona Association of Realtors and Women's Council of Realtors. Michelle Lind, general counsel/assistant CEO for the Arizona Association of Realtors. She has been involved in representing the association for 18 years and serves as its primary legal advisor. Michelle will speak on "Real Estate For Troubled Times," The class explores the resons for loan defaults and possible solutions and much more and provides 3 hours of continuing education in Real Estate Legal Issues. The class will be $25 and you can stay afterwards for lunch with Michelle Lind for an additional $12.
October 7th will bring the installation of new officers. Sheila Espinoza will be the guest speaker. Sheila is past National WCR President and past State WCR President. Also, we are hoping to have in attendance our State President, Kris Nelson, Governors Sindy Ready and Wilma Purcell AND some members of the Tucson WCR chapter. It's going to be fun so plan to attend! Contact Alice Switzer for your reservation. 520-227-9933 or exit.sv@gmail.com. See you there!
